Christmas with my dad's family

Today my family and I went to celebrate Christmas on my dad's side. It took longer to get there than usual because where I live it snowed 9 inches and a lot of roads hadn't been plowed. We all had a great time. There were 10 of us kids/teens there. I like getting together with my cousins. My older brother and cousin always joke about which is better Michigan or Michigan State. My brother likes Michigan, my dad went there. My cousin goes to State and his mom went there.

We draw names for gifts. My cousin Ariana gave me a jewelry making kit with beautiful beads and the tools to make them. My grandparents were very generous and gave my brothers and I money to help save for college.

Oh, I almost forgot, I got my ears pierced. I had them done when I was younger but they hurt when I took out the earrings so I let them close up. I am so excited to have them pierced again. They don't hurt at all. It will be fun to make some earrings with my new kit.

Winter-Time

Late lies the winter sun a-bed,
A frosty, fiery sleepy-head;
Blinks but an hour or two; and then,
A blood-red orange, sets again.

Before the stars have left the skies,
At morning in the dark i rise;
And shivering in my nakedness,
By the cold candle, bathe and dress.

Close by the jolly fire I sit
To warm my frozen bones a bit;
Or with a reindeer-sled, explore
The colder countries round the door.

When to go out, my nurse doth wrap
Me in my comforter and cap;
The cold wind burns my face, and blows
In frosty pepper up my nose.

Black are my steps on silver sod;
Thick blows my frosty breath abroad;
And tree and house, and hill and lake,
Are frosted like a wedding-cake.

Yummy Rollo Cookies

We started our holiday baking. My mom found a new recipe online. Saturday my mom and I went over to bake with my Aunt Kathy and my cousin's wife Laura. We made Rollo Cookies. It's so funny everyone that tastes them says their the best cookies ever. My cousin Jonathan gave one to a friend at the high school and he said, "Wow, I think these are the best cookies I've ever eaten." They are so good warm out of the oven and also after they've cooled.

I thought you might like the recipe.

Rollo Cookies

1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
24 rollo candies
granulated sugar

Preheat oven to 375F. Cream together butter, peanut butter, egg, and sugars. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to butter mixture and mix well. Roll dough into balls. Place 1 rollo in center of each ball. Roll each ball in granulated sugar and place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 10 minutes. Makes about 24.

*We used a baking stone and didn't grease it.

Enjoy!

Fun Time With Family

Yesterday my family went to celebrate my cousin Emma's birthday as well as my aunt and grandma's birthday. I love to go to my cousin's house. It is two hours away. The roads were quite slippery. It is so pretty where they live. There are lots of trees and snow there. They always have deer and other animals walking around. One day they heard someone knocking and they found out it was a turkey knocking on the glass doorwall downstairs. Isn't that funny?!

We were going to spend the night but we ended up going home so we could go to our church today. I also had to go take my neighbor's dog out. They went to a Christmas concert and were gone a long time. They said I didn't have to come but I wanted to do it. I was able to earn money for Christmas shopping. I decided when I got to their house last night that I would shovel their snow too. They were thankful. I want to show them Christ's love.

Enjoy your day blog readers!!!!
